Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot

This one makes my patented "Seriously, What The Fuck-ometer" go sky high. I live about 60 miles northwest of Somerset County, Pennsylvania where Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001. I have driven by this site several times and I seriously need to stop the next time I'm in Somerset. In my RSS feed today I find this article from WPXI News. Anyone who knows me knows that I am all for tolerance and acceptance, I’m gay, it’s kind of our thing, but to think that someone would design a memorial to the victims and heroes aboard Flight 93, a terrorist act carried out by Muslim extremists, to have so many references to Islam is deplorable. It is a giant crescent with a star on a tower that points to the site of impact and it just also happens that the star and crescent are in line with the holy city of Mecca. Seriously, What. The. Fuck.

A couple of very good links to add to your commentary:

Error Theory by Alec Rawls details the "Crescent of Embrace" Flight 93 memorial abomination. Alec of whom we should all be in debt - I wonder what this has cost him personally? - And in fact he has written an e-book (PDF) and continues a regularly updated blog about his findings.

The US Parks Service contention is the design conforms to the landscape. According to memorial park superintendent Joanne Hanley of the National Park Service:

"We can't change the land form. We can't change the topography.
NOR WILL WE. And we can't change the location of the sacred ground."

As it happens, yesterday, a msm video report inadvertently exposes the obvious:
aerial view of crash site does not resemble a bowl - rather a "V" as in "Victory" - symbolic of the bravery of "Let's roll" - successfully altering the course of that plane's final descent away from D.C.

This memorial design abomination is a shrine not to American heroism, but to New Age relativist hooey . . .the brainchild of architect Paul Murdoch.

Out of 1100 entries for the memorial design, Murdoch's design was the only contender who violated the only physical requirement for design - to fit the natural landform.

This memorial is a done deal according to some. It's simply a small vocal fringe that can simply be dismissed.

I suppose the father of Tom Burnett Jr., passenger and victim of Flight 93 is simply to be dismissed as well.

Memorial Project Superintendent Joanne Hanley will NOT honor Tom Burnett Sr.'s request to keep Tom Jr's name off that memorial design dedicated to terrorists dogma. A giant mihrab . . .a mosque.
